HOW MUCH TIME IS REQUIRED FOR A PET PORTRAIT?
All portraits are completed at a first come, first serve basis. Depending on my current workload, I recommend that you let me know at least 4 months in advance for prepping, painting, dry time, and shipping. This time is estimated based on 7"x7" - 12"x12" sized paintings. "Rush" orders will be taken on a case-by-case basis and will require an extra charge if taken.
WHAT MEDIUMS DO YOU WORK IN?
Oil and Gouache paint are the two primary mediums I work with. All oil portraits are painted on wood, and all gouache portraits are painted on watercolor paper. Oil paintings are finished with varnish and have a slight shine to them, whereas gouache is a matte drying paint. Due to the different techniques I use between these two mediums, there is a slight difference in painting style. If you would like to see examples of each medium, please hop over to my portfolio page.
WHAT DO YOU CHARGE?
Estimation of cost depends on materials used, the size of the painting, and the amount of time it will take me to finish it. Please see the below tables for pricing estimates based on the most popular portrait sizes. These estimates are based on portraits containing only one animal with a solid color background. Additional animals and special backgrounds will require an additional fee depending on the size of the painting.
I require a 25% deposit to start, with the remaining 75% paid once the portrait is complete. If you have a specific size in mind that is not mentioned below or questions about pricing, please contact me directly so we can discuss!

NATURAL WOOD SLICES VS PRE-CUT WOOD PANELS?
When commissioning me for an oil portrait, you will be asked to choose the size and type of wood you would like your painting on. Here are the types of materials that I offer:
Pre-cut wood panels are manufactured to specific sizes and even custom shapes. I typically recommend choosing from this variety of panels if you are looking for a particular size and want a clean, professional look. Please see my supplier's website to check out the variety of panel shapes that they offer - from standard square panels to more ornate styles.
Each panel either has a keyhole or edge on the back that allows for wall hanging.
Natural wood slices have bark edging. Each slice is completely unique and are great if you desire a more rustic look. Since these are raw slices of basswood, expect imperfections such as knots or even for the bark to shed over time. I am unable to order slices at specific sizes like the pre-cut panels and therefore cannot guarantee that your size will be in stock. Clients who would like a wood slice portrait will be asked to pick from the sizes I have available in my studio.
All natural wood slices will have a picture frame bracket nailed into the back for wall hanging. They also look great on an easel or frame stand!

CAN YOU PAINT A PORTRAIT OF ME AND MY PET?
I am sorry, but I am only painting animals at this time.
WHAT KIND OF REFERENCE PHOTOS DO YOU NEED?
A good reference photo is high-resolution with good lighting and a clear view of the animal's face. High quality reference photos are essential so that I can accurately depict fur color/texture, eye color, and expression. I cannot work from blurry or low resolution images or photos where the animal's face is turned away or obstructed. If you have multiple reference images, please send them all! Just let me know if you would like me to work from a specific reference photo.
PAINTING CARE
To ensure the longevity of your portraits, please store or hang paintings in an area of your home that does not have high humidity, such as bathrooms or kitchens. I also recommend hanging paintings out of direct sunlight to prevent fading over time.
For oil paintings - If you find that your portrait has collected dust, you can clean it using a damp cotton fiber cloth or t-shirt. Do not clean with Swiffers or dust rags!
